What do I do, Why do I do it?..
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, and poorly edited:
I strive to create useful, beautiful, thoughtful, regenerative, playful, intriguing objects, places and moments. It’s a human privilege to think and create, and humans are inseparable from nature. I try to let my hands be the “hand of Nature” letting the creation lead the process.
I’m a materialist (though not materialistic); I believe that collecting, creating, and maintaining objects of beauty and utility is fundamental to life. I believe that material objects deserve reverence and respect… respect for the resources, effort and skill that produced the object, and respect for the past participants and future generations of potential.. I strive for constructive, regenerative, egalitarian, and nature-centric material culture.
Humanity and “Nature” are inseparable/indistinguishable. we have no existence outside of nature, we have no existence outside of change, we have no being outside of time, we have no existence outside of our interdependence with all beings and things.
Materials gain meaning and “value” through usefulness; Form and Emptiness. Without form, there is no emptiness, without emptiness there is no usefulness. Every creation and material object embodies innumerable potential uses.
there is usefulness in beauty, though not always beauty in usefulness. the use creates an object. the use of objects creates our daily life.
When I design or create, I commit to the realization that “good and bad” “right and wrong” are transient, arbitrary, and situational. I strive for solutions and objects that are beneficial, resilient, expedient, nourishing, fit to purpose, harm-reducing, and connective.
